GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport opened GLIAC play last week with split results, falling to Saginaw Valley State, 68–64, before responding with a dominant 74–59 victory over Lake Superior State. The Panthers will now step out of conference action for three games before returning to GLIAC play on New Year's Day, when they travel to Marquette to face Northern Michigan.
DU's only contest this week is a nonconference matchup at McKendree on Saturday, Dec. 13, in Lebanon, Ill., at the Melvin Price Convocation Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Davenport's Leaders
Davenport delivered balanced production across its two outings, with three players averaging double figures, led by Maddie Geers at 14.5 points per game. Geers also ranks 12th in the GLIAC in scoring average at 13.1 points per game and sits 16th in total points with 92.
Nevaeh Williams paced the offense, totaling nine assists and five steals over the stretch, while Ellie Toney turned in one of the most complete performances, combining for 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks across the pair of games. Toney currently stands 14th in the league in rebounding average (5.9) and 19th in total rebounds (41).
Beyond the trio, Anna Axtell continues to be a perimeter threat, shooting 32.4 percent from deep, good for 12th in the GLIAC, while Hannah Schroeder ranks 17th in total assists with 18 (2.3 per game). Defensively, Reese Polega enters this week leading the conference in blocks with nine (1.5 per game).
Scouting McKendree
- Head coach Kari Kerkhoff enters her 11th season leading McKendree and earned GLVC Coach of the Year honors during the 2023–24 season. Assistant coach Terra Helm is in her second year on staff.
- The Bearcats enter Saturday at 4–2 overall and 2–1 in GLVC play, coming off a narrow 68–66 win over Illinois-Springfield on Dec. 4. That result followed a dominant 96–50 victory over Rockhurst on Dec. 1.
- Historically, the Bearcats and Panthers have met three times, with DU trailing the series 2–1. Their most recent matchup came on Dec. 21, 2024, when Davenport secured a 79–61 victory.
- McKendree features three double-figure scorers: Baylie Parks, Chloe White and Tessa Crawford. Parks leads at 12.0 points per game and also paces the group with 7.8 rebounds per outing (39 total). White owns the highest point total on the roster (63), while Emma Slings leads the team in assists with 20. Defensively, White has posted a team-best 17 steals.
